Nov 18: D5 Christ: His Person and His Work

Goal: To adequately understand the aspects of the life and work of Christ.

What do you discover about God and Christ from John 10:30?
That God and Christ are one.

"We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man,
having been conceived of the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary.
He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures.
Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven,
where at the right hand of the Majesty on High,
He now is our High Priest and Advocate."

Humanity
1. Matthew 1:18 - he was born
2. Luke 2:52 - grew up in wisdom and position
3. John 4:6; John 11:35 - he was tired, he wept
4. Mark 6:3 - he was a son, a brother and a carpenter
5. Luke 23:46 - he died
6. Hebrews 4:15 - he was tempted in every way
7. John 19:30 - he cried out and bowed his head
8. John 1:14 - flesh


Deity
What is significant about the verse John 20:31?
That Jesus is son of God and that the Bible records enough for us to believe.
1. Titus 2:13 - the second coming, "Glorious Appearing"
2. Luke 7:48 - ability to forgive us our sins
3. John 11:43-44 - he raised Lazarus from death
4. Matthew 14:33 - Jesus walks on water, worshiped
5. John 2:11 - 1st miraculous sign, changing water into wine


Incarnation
1. In the flesh, Jesus' coming ot earth.
2. What do you note about Mary? Matthew 1:18, Luke 1:27
That she was pledged to be married to Joseph and she was with child before through the Holy Spirit.
a. How was Mary to have a baby? Luke 1:35
Through the power of the Holy Spirit.
b. How was this kind of preganacy possible? Luke 1:37
Nothing is impossible with God.


Death and Resurrection
- the bringing of sinful mand back to God through the death of His Son
1. Why did Jesus die and rise again from the dead? 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Christ died for our sins according to scriptures.
2. What did Jesus become for us? 2 Corinthians 5:21
Christ become sin for us.
3. Why did Christ become sin for us?
a. 2 Corinthians 5:21 So that we might be accepted before God.
b. 1 Peter 3:18 To bring us to God.
4. What did Jesus'death do for us? 1 Peter 1:18-19
His death, the blood of Christ redeemed us.


Sin separates us from God. Therefore, we need to be reconciled (brought back) to God. This is done through the death and resurrection of Christ.


Resurrection
1. Why do you think that is importand that the resurrection of Jesus was a bodily resurrection?
1 Corinthians 15:5-8 To fufill prophecy, to appear to men.
2. After coming to the tomb, what did the women find? Matthew 28:1-6
An angel of the Lord and the empty tomb.
3. After the resurrection, how did Jesus prove He had a human body? Luke 24:39
He appeared in flesh and bone.
1. How did Jesus ascend? Acts 1:9
He was taken up with a cloud hiding him from their sight.
2. What did Jesus do for us in heaven?
Hebrew 8:1-2 - high priest
Ephesians 4:7-11 - grace and gifts
Hebrews 4:14-16 - sympathizes with our weakness
John 17:9 - prays for us
Hebrews 7:25 - saves us, intercedes for us
