Goal: To understand the ministry of the Holy Spirit and His relationship to Christians Scripture: John 16:4-16 & Acts 2:1-21

Who He Is
1. He is deity.
2. He is person.
3. The works of the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:21 - speaking God's word
John 16:7-11 - convicts us of our sin
John 3:5-6 - birth to spirit, enter the kingdom of God
John 15:26 - Spirit of truth, counselor, testify
John 16:14 - revealing God to us
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 we are God's temple
John 16:13 - guides us in truth
Romans 8:26 helps in weakness, intercedes
Romans 8:9 - controls us
2 Corinthians 1:21-22 - seal of ownership
Ephesians 5:18 - fills us
Exodus 31:3 - filled with the spirit, skill and knowledge of crafts
John 14:17 - we know the Holy Spirit and he is in us
Acts 2:1 - 41, The Pentecost occurred 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ, when the Spirit descended on the apostles
1. What did Jesus promise? John 14:16 - a counselor to be with us forever
2. What would the Holy Spirit give them? Acts 1:4-5, 8 - power through baptism
3. How was the promise fulfilled? Acts 2:1 -4 - the spirit came upon them, they could speak in tongues
4. What were some of the evidences of the power of the Holy Spirit that were given to the Apostles?
a. Acts 2:43 - miracles
b. Acts 2:47 - saved
c. Acts 5:26 - healing
d. Acts 6:7 - increase number and faith
Indwelling
1. What is the relationship of unbelievers to the Holy Spirit?
a. Romans 8:9 - not controlled by the spirit but by sin
b. Jude 19 - men dividing men
2. If you are a Christian, what is your body? Why? 1 Corintinians 3:16 -17
a temple for the spirit to live
What command is given for Christians in Ephesians 5:18? to be filled with the Spirit
If we are not allowing the Holy Spirit to control our lives, what might we be doing?
1. Ephesians 4:30 - grieves the Spirit
2. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 - puts out the Spirits fire
3. What may a non-Christian do? Acts 7:51 - resists the Spirit
Gifts and Fruits
What does the Holy Spirit give the Christians?
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 - wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, power, prophecy, tongues, interpretation
2. Who is given spiritual gifts?
Ephesians 4:7, 1 Corinthians 12:7 - each of us
3. Why are spiritual gifts given?
Ephesians 4:12-13, 1 Peter 4:10 - to build up the body of Christ, to have unity in fiath, to server others
What are the fruits of the Spirit? Galatians 5:22 - 23
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self - Control
